Henrietta Lockhart, Throwing Light on the Edwardians: a collection of printing blocks from Brookes Ward lighting company. In 2023, Winterbourne House and Garden received a donation of hundreds of printing blocks depicting components from light fittings. Wrapped in paper packages, many of the blocks had not seen the light of day since the 1920s. With the help of a University intern, we have now sorted and researched this collection, which gives an insight into the way the Edwardians illuminated their homes. Jessica Glaser, Image and self-identity: a case study of Beatrice Warde. Image making and self-identity development became part of a commercial skillset and prized commodities in the twentieth century; female literary figures particularly prized and cultivating their identities and portrayal as valued professional assets. Drawing on unique photographs and illustrations. This talk explores a selection of examples of Warde’s image making and self-identity development for professional success.
